The 2009 GOONL!NE Game of the Year – Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Posted in PlayStation 3, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios with tags , , on December 24, 2009 by Jonathan Cullen

By Jonathan Cullen, James Love and Will Swarbrick, with contributions from Jennifer Allen and Martin Gaston.

Well, it was going to be piss easy, going into awards season, right? Modern Warfare 2 sweeping all the overall GOTYs you could find.

Wrong.

While we did love Modern Warfare 2 here, it was unmistakably Uncharted 2 that swept us off our feet. It really was absolutely an incredible experience from start to finish, and is the closest a game has come to in a Hollywood blockbusters. Hear the thoughts of our staff on the game, and why it is the best game this year below.

Congratulations to Naughty Dog, and Uncharted 2 – GOONL!NE’s GOTY for 2009.

Uncharted 2

The good folks over at the US PS Blog and the EU Blog have just announced an update for Uncharted 2 (1.01) which should be available now.

With Halloween on the horizon, it’s been announced that this weekend will be the first ever Double Cash Weekend, starting today (Friday 30th) at 11AM PST/6PM GMT and finishing Monday November 2nd at 11AM PST/6pm GMT.

Every match this weekend you’ll now get twice the cash award you normally would for completing typical game actions – not medal-related currency awards – giving everyone a leg up in increasing their rank.

A bunch of Naughty Dog staff will also be playing this weekend, so be on the lookout for the red Naughty Dog paw next to their PSN ID in the game.

A list of changes in the patch can be found after the jump.

Naughty Dog: “Who said we’re making Uncharted 3?”

Posted in PlayStation 3, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios with tags , , , , on October 28, 2009 by Jonathan Cullen

Naughty Dog

Possibly giving a hint as to what the studio are working on next, Naughty Dog’s creative director Amy Hennig has revealed that for all we know, they could be working on Uncharted 3 next. Then again, they might not be:

“Who said we’re making Uncharted 3?,” said Hennig.

Hennig was speaking in an interview with InGameChat with fellow ND Neil Druckmann, where he revealed in the same interview that they are already looking at parts which even out do Uncharted 2.

“We’re Naughty Dog right? When we approach a new project, we can’t just make it slightly better, because people’s memory of the stuff is always better than what it actually was so it has to be so much better, so that it really stands out.

“We had a brain storming the other day and one of the designers pitched something that sounded like it might be able to top the train,” said Druckmann.

“I would think that what he was pitching would top the train quite a bit, but that’s all we can say,” addid Hennig.

For the record, Uncharted 2 is properly awesome. And we mean “properly awesome”. Seriously. Go check out the review to find out why.

Uncharted 2 “exceeding expectations” – DLC Planned

Posted in PlayStation 3, PlayStation Store, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios with tags , , on October 27, 2009 by James Love

Uncharted 2

Developer Naughty Dog have told of how Uncharted 2 has outsold it’s predecessor “by many, many times.”

“I would definitely say it’s exceeding expectations,” Naughty Dog’s creative director Amy Hennig told IndustryGamers.

“It’s a tough business, but from the early numbers I’ve seen getting reported back it’s exceeded any estimates we had internally, and it’s certainly outsold the first game by many, many times. That and the critical reception so far has been really gratifying.”

Hennig also confirmed that the first DLC for the game shouldn’t be too far away.

“We’re working on that now, and what we’re prepared to say is that there will be DLC available before the end of the year,” she added. “It’ll involve new maps, new characters, things like that. Some of it will be free of charge and some of it will be purchasable.

We’ve got a lot of people on the team working on this stuff, some really cool stuff that people will be excited about. So we’re definitely taking it very seriously.”

Thanks to MCV.

Next PS3 Firmware To Bring Cross-Game Chat

Posted in PlayStation 3, PlayStation Network with tags , , on October 14, 2009 by James Love

ps3 slim

Sony will love Naughty Dog developer ReklissAbandon for this as today on the US PlayStation Forums today, he made the following post:

“I think they wanted people to have fun and enjoy the show since all dead players can talk to each other no matter what team you are on. But I will suggest it anyway. Not to mention that the next PS3 firmware update is going to allow cross game chat. So if players use that instead of in game communication then they would also be able to communicate enemies’ positions.”

No date was given for the firmware but rumours point to it coming at the end of October. Additionally, the post on the PS Forums has since been deleted, hinting that ReklissAbandon said something he really ought not to have.
