Metal Gear Solid 4 – One Year On

MGS4

Friday February 29th 2008: I’m in an internet cafe, early that Friday morning. Konami were more then likely all set to announce the release date of Metal Gear Solid 4. When it was announced on a brand new Kojima Productions podcast (back when Ryan Payton was hosting), worldwide for June 12th, needless to say, I was quite happy as I knew that the first two weeks of June would be awesome. Plus, they avoided June 6th as a release date, which was great enough for me. Why? I didnt want the game to come out the weekend I went to see Radiohead the week before MGS4’s release.

But they did avoid it, Radiohead was awesome and now the waiting game was on for Metal Gear Solid 4: my most antcipated game not just of last year, but this gen. Needless to say, I wasnt dissapointed with the game at all, infact, I was more then happy with it, you can read my review for it here. But a year to the day since Metal Gear Solid 4 was released worldwide, does the game still hold up to be not just one of the finest games on the PS3 or this gen, but of all time?

Rising 2

To celebrate it’s now multiplatform status, Konami’s sent out a Metal Gear Solid: Rising render of Raiden for the game, along with the PR. Yeah pointless, but we thought you should know.

It’s after the jump, along with the PR.

It’s out *maybe* next year for PLAYSTATION 3 and Xbox 360.

CONFIRMED: Metal Gear Solid 5 Confirmed – Featuring Big Boss & Gray Fox (?)

Posted in E3 2009, PlayStation 3 with tags , , , , , on May 27, 2009 by Jonathan Cullen

Kojima's Next

UPDATE: Apparently, not Raiden, it’s actually Gray Fox. If you read the scans carefully, Gray has red eyes where Raiden had blue. This one has the former.

UPDATE 2: Oh god, now we’re getting confused. PlayStation Insider has translated it and while there is no mention of Raiden, there is also no mention of Gray Fox. It’s 7 years after the events of MGS4 (by which time, we assume Snake died).

There will be a PS3 and PSP game, but both intertwine.

It’s 4am BST, our head is sore and we need sleep! This aint fair!

Original Story: Famitsu has revealed Metal Gear Solid 5, featuring Big Boss and apparently, Gray Fox. In an exclusive interview with Hideo Kojima. So far, only scans from the issue has come out and very little has been revealed, we cant even confirm if it’s actually Metal Gear Solid 5 itself, for all we know it’s Portable Ops 2 for the PSP, but the concept art is too PS3 like, so we’re going on an assumption right. And as well as that, forumners are saying the platforms are censored, but this MGS will be on PlayStation platform (s) no question.

What we do know is this: the article is been translated and as soon as any info comes out, you’ll know. Catch the scans after the jump.

More soon.

RUMOR: Raiden Pic on Teaser Site Confirms New Metal Gear

Posted in PlayStation 3 with tags , , , , , , , on May 21, 2009 by Jonathan Cullen

Kojima's Next

CVG’s just been alerted to a Tweet which shows the Hideo Kojima teaser site updated for a while. It’s still coutning down, but in the pic it shows Raiden; to be specfic, Ninja Raiden from Metal Gear Solid 4.

Which means it’s confirmation of a new Metal Gear game. The only question is is it Metal Gear Solid 5 or Metal Gear Solid 4: Subwhatever? When we checked the teaser site, it was still counting down, but no pic of Raiden was on there to see.

Which means either it was there for a short time or it’s a fake. We’ll find out either way tonight, the countdown ends tonight at 1am BST.

Why Kojima’s Next Title is Metal Gear Solid 5

Kojima's Next

UPDATE: Soon after this article was published, the Kojima teaser site update with a countdown.

It seems that once you start a good thing, you become addicted to it. Alas, like alcohol, you say to yourself “one more drink” after having a few and then you finish that before you decide “one more”. Then you become an alcoholic.

But a totally different yet similar example would be Hideo Kojima. He’s said since Metal Gear Solid 2 that this MGS game would be his last, as such, the last time this was said was back at E3 2007 when he showed Metal Gear Solid 4. And Metal Gear Solid 4 is quite simply the best game ever made, we think so.

So, after Metal Gear Solid 4, what next for the prodigal son of gaming? Zone of the Enders 3? Nope, it seems that you cant get enough of a good thing, and with Kojima, it seems he’s not ready to give up on Metal Gear Solid yet.

How?

Because he’s making Metal Gear Solid 5, and the evidence proves it.

*beware: a major spoiler awaits you concerning Metal Gear Solid 4 if you have not completed it. So if you havent gone further then Act 4, you risk seeing it at your own risk*

lbp-mgs-pack

Get ready for a very special treat for the Christmas, Media Molecule is about to release the most funniest and exciting DLC ever.

To be released on 23rd December, the MGS Level and Character pack sees MGS take on LittleBigPlanet with new level, new material and new chatacters plus a new addition to the game.  Appropriately titled ‘the Paintinator’ gives the Sackboys some much needed weaponry to face their nemesis. As the name suggests, the DLC includes paintball guns-which obviously fires..er..paintballs, giving a whole new dimension to create new user created levels for insane fun.

The paintball guns work the same way as jetpacks and include this in your level as a powerup.

As well as that, you will also have 12 new trophies to come and a character pack which includes Snake (revealed back at the Tokyo Games Show), Meryl Silverburgh, Raiden and Screaming Mantis as well as a new costume for your Sackboy, a terrorist outfit worn by Olga Gurlokovich’s group in Metal Gear Solid 2.

Plus, as well as the Paintinator, you also get 5 new levels to play with plus many many more cool stuff to come.

Pricing details and release dates are after the jump.
