By Jonathan Cullen.

It’s that time of year, folks.

The time where we sort the men from the boys, the wheat from the chaff and find out which is better: Coke or Pepsi? Daddy or Chips? But in our case, Uncharted 2 or Modern Warfare 2.

These are just two of the game that are in the running for Game of the Year 2009, alongside Batman: Arkham Asylum and Street Fighter IV.

We do have other awards too though, you know. So, let’s not waste any other time, and let’s get cracking. All of the awards are below.

Just one thing though: all of the staff involved in the process, both full-time and freelance, had a clean slate. They were free to pick any game that was on the consoles as their nomination. Basically, you picked Left 4 Dead 2 as a nomination in GOTY, it would also go down as your vote for GOTY. Same for all the other categories.

This could mean you may only see one game completely run away with it in one category, while it becoming very close in others.

A bit later then usual, but better now on release then never.

Still other then The Saboteur (R.I.P Pandemic), these are the last blockbusters of this year, but we go out with AAA games, not ass quailty games. Speaking of “ass”, the main game for this week is, of course, Assassin’s Creed II.

We’ve been covering it from the beginning of the year, before it was announced, up until now. Look for review on it shortly, but we’re properly pumped for it, lets just say.

Also out this week is Left 4 Dead 2 for the Xbox 360. This is another one which you should be getting asap by the looks of it. Dave has been writing up his review for a bit now, so expect it hopefully by early next week.

Catch the full list after the jump.

Say the name Hideo Kojima to a gamer and what’ll spring to mind is Metal Gear for most. His legacy is huge, spanning almost 20 titles to date but after he’s finished with Metal Gear Solid: Rising and Peace Walker, that’s him done and dusted with the series.

Speaking to the EU PlayStation Blog, Kojima offered some insight into what he has planned for the future:

“It will be kind of too late if I start thinking about after I’ve finished with Peace Walker and Rising. I’ll probably have to plan before. But I always want to do my next original title and that’s always on my mind. And, as I said before, I could kind of produce some other titles such as Zone of the Enders and I will like to plan that doing the producer side and also creating my original new title.”

Metal Gear Solid: Rising will launch on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 but the release date is still TBA.

zone-of-the-endersThe dream is becoming more real everytime we hear about it.

Speaking in an interview for the EU PS Blog, Hideo Kojima has said that Zone of the Enders 3 is at “the top” of a list of games to do at Kojima Productions.

“A lot of [people] love Zone of the Enders, and we love the title as well, especially at Kojima Productions and we always want to create one for the next gens as well.”

“Of course, Kojuma Productions has a long list of things we want to bring out, and of course Zone of the Enders is one on the top of the list,” revealed Kojima, speaking at Tokyo Game Show.

Remember, he mentioned ZOE3 earlier this year, as well as talk about possibly remaking Zone of the Enders 2 for the PS3 using the Metal Gear Solid 4 engine.

NatalMicrosoft’s put out a press release announcing the publishers and partners toiling away at Project Natal.

The 360 motion controller now has support from Konami, Capcom, Square Enix and MTV Games, which may hint at a Rock Band based Natal game.

But the biggest news is a panel that will be happening today. When in BST we dont know, but the panel does contain MGS creator Hideo Kojima and Capcom’s Kenji Inafune, as well as SEGA’s Toshihiro Nagoshi. We shall see what happens later today.

Rising with Natal? Chainsaws in Dead Rising 3 thanks to the camera? We shall see.

Ta, Kotaku.
