Stringer: Activision Threat is “noise”

Posted in Activision, PlayStation 3 with tags , , , , , on July 8, 2009 by Jonathan Cullen

ps3It’s fucking on like fucking Donkey fucking Kong! Sony president Howard Stringer has been talking at the Allen & co conference in California this week according to Reuters, via VG247. And Stringer had harsh words to his counterpart at Activision, Bobby Kotick.

He likes to make a lot of noise. He’s putting pressure on me and I’m putting pressure on him. That’s the nature of business.

If you dont know whats going on, lets catch you up. Last month, Activision, to be specfic Kotick, threatened to pull support for the PS3 and PSP unless Sony did a price cut for the PS3.

They have to cut the price, because if they don’t, the attach rates are likely to slow. If we are being realistic, we might have to stop supporting Sony. Games generate a better return on invested capital on the Xbox than on the PlayStation.

And on that front, Stringer was asked about a possible price-cut.

I (would) lose money on every PlayStation I make – how’s that for logic

Ladies, ladies, just get in a mudbath and slig in it out in bikinis.

May NPD Numbers Released – Hardware Numbers Fall But Nintendo Still Dominate

Posted in Nintendo Wii, Other Gaming, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on June 12, 2009 by Jonathan Cullen

npdThe numbers from NPD for May are in and they make for grim reading. Hardware numbers are down since last month with the Nintendo DS being the only hardware maintaining strong numbers at 633k units sold. Meanwhile, the Xbox 360 made slow numbers unlike before, but still beat the PLAYSTATION 3 thanks to the 360 selling 175k compared to the PS3’s 131k.

The Wii sold 289k units, the PS2 sold less then the PS3 but only marginally with 117k, but it did beat the PSP which had 100k sold. Meanwhile in the software front, UFC Undisputed was the surprise winner on this path, which sold a combined 1 million between the PS3 & 360. inFamous did very well for it’s first month, selling 175k and only on sale for about 6 days in May.

But grim news was given: on a year on year basis, sales went down to $682 million from $1,12 billion.

Full charts after the jump.

Keep your knickers, this aint what you think it is.

The ESRB has rated Final Fantasy VII for the PS3. But before you go fucking mental, trashing your room in happiness, this aint the remake. This is the PS1 version probably getting ready for a release on the PS Store as a PS1 classic. It’s been on the Japanese PS Store for a while now.

The game’s been rated T for Teen and is being published by Sony Computer Entertainment America.

But is this leading to something bigger? Well, Advent Children Complete is released on Blu-Ray in the US on Tuesday, but last year has proved to expect the unexpected with Square Enix. We’re saying nothing except keep an eye on Tuesday…

The focus groups are based in Japan and does involve certain criteria to be met before being allowed to join, if Sony accept you, such as:

You can be there for as long as a half day, which is 2 – 3 hours to a full day for 3 – 7 (you get a free lunch too if you do the free day).
